The Captains (10-2, 4-0), ranked 33rd in the nation, won all 20 matches this weekend to go 3-0 against conference opponents.
In a match played to decision on Sunday afternoon, the Captains dropped just six total games in six matches. CNU earned a pair of 8-0 wins in doubles as sophomore
McKinney Harwood and junior
Katie Carlson improved to 9-2 at No. 1, while sophomores
Claire Dockrill and
Isabelle Wessel are now 6-0 at No. 3. In the other match, sophomores
Alexandra Drye and
Emily Morgan added to their unbeaten record at No. 2, improving to 11-0 with an 8-2 win over Anna Passaniti and Mollie Johnson.
The Captains quickly wrapped up the match in single splay with wins at 1-3. Two Captains earned a pair of wins on Sunday as Carlson dropped Passaniti (6-0, 6-2) at No. 1 singles and Drye took down Emily Rost at No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-1). In the final matchup, sophomore
Meili Konell downed Marissa Romanek at No. 2 by a final score of 6-1, 6-0.
CNU has now won at least 10 matches in seven straight seasons, and 13 of the last 14 years. The 10-2 start is the best for fourth year Director of Tennis
Eric Christiansen and the finest for the program since 2011 when the team also won 10 of their first 12 matches.
The Captains will now head to the Nor'Easter Bowl Tournament hosted by Wellesley College in Massachusetts. CNU will open the event with No. 31 Brandeis on April 1 at 3:00 pm, followed by a match against host and 33rd-ranked Wellesley on April 2 at 11:00 am. Christopher Newport will close out the road trip at No. 28 Babson on April 3 at 9:00 am.
