The Captains dropped Frostburg State, 5-0, before taking down Southern Virginia, 9-0.
The match against Frostburg State was shortened due to weather and court space as the Captains moved the two matches indoors to the Centre Court Racquet Club.
The doubleheader gave Director of tennis
Eric Christiansen a chance to shuffle his lineup on Saturday, as ten different CNU players registered at least one victory in the two matches. That group included the first career appearance, and victory, for rookie
Colette Gilbert, who captured a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 6 singles against Southern Virginia. Sophomore
Kristi Wong also earned her first win of the year, playing at No. 5 against the Knights.
CNU's domination of doubles play this season continued on Saturday, going 6-0 between the two matchups, while dropping just two games. Sophomores
Alexandra Drye and
Emily Morgan improved to 10-0 at No. 2 doubles, while
McKinney Harwood and
Katie Carlson added their seventh and eighth wins at No. 1 doubles. As a team, the Captains have gone 27-6 in doubles play this year, for a winning percentage of 81.8%.
In singles, sophomore
Meili Konell made her first career appearance at No. 1, dropping Frostburg State's Kayla Kirk by a final score of 6-0, 6-1. Rookie
Lily Schreiber played at No. 4 singles against Southern Virginia, improving to 2-0 in her collegiate career.
The Captains won all six singles matches against Southern Virginia by 6-0, 6-0 scores.
CNU will host St. Mary's (Md.) on Sunday, March 20. The match was originally scheduled to be a road contest, but due to weather concerns, CNU will host the Seahawks at 1:00 pm.
