NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will continue its homestand on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when CNU welcomes Randolph-Macon to town for a non-conference battle at Captains Turf Field.
Entering the match-up, the Captains are coming off of their first victory of the season and currently stand at 1-1 overall. Meanwhile, Randolph-Macon sits at 0-2 coming into Wednesday's bout.

LAST TIME OUT Head coach
Mikey Thompson picked up his first career victory as the Captains downed Ferrum, 12-8, on Saturday afternoon. During the contest, CNU used a fourth-quarter assault, which included five straight goals, to pull away for the win. Overall,
Dave Magdeburger led the team with four points, while
Joey Rolando and
Drew Magnusson added three apiece.
Will Geise,
Randy Foster, and
Shane McKenna all scored two times each as well.
On the defensive end,
Brandon Moloney forced three turnovers and collected seven ground balls.
Matt Hayden also made 12 saves to earn the victory.
A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Tony Cruz has continued to dominate on faceoffs as the second-year standout has won 31 of his 44 battles. His .705 winning percentage currently leads the CAC, and he is coming off of a 15-for-21 performance against Ferrum.
Moloney also ranks first in the conference among non-faceoff specialists with 12 ground balls this season, while his five caused turnovers are tied with
Michael Mabry for the team-lead. Meanwhile, Hayden sports a .591 save percentage and an 8.46 goals-against-average this year.
Leading the way on the offensive end, Rolando boasts a team-high six points, including three assists. Magdeburger and Foster also have five points apiece.
SCOUTING THE YELLOW JACKETS Randolph-Macon has dropped its first two games of the year after falling to Mary Washington, 14-6, before stumbling at Catholic, 17-11. So far this season, Lee Pratt has paced the RMC attack with four goals, while Coleman Adams, Ryan Davidson, and Miles Muncie have three apiece. Tyee Buttrey has been the team's top facilitator with two helpers, but only five of the team's 17 goals have been assisted this year.
On the defensive end, junior Brian Davies has a .537 save percentage and a 15.50 goals-against-average. Freshman Cole Churchill leads the back line with three caused turnovers. Meanwhile, Nick Benhoff has won 23 of his 48 faceoff attempts while corralling 16 ground balls.
SERIES HISTORY The Captains and Yellow Jackets have battled nine times with Randolph-Macon holding a 6-3 edge in the all-time series. However, CNU has won the last three meetings, including a 17-5 triumph in Ashland last year. During that contest, Magdeburger posted seven points, including four goals, while Cruz won 15 of his 21 faceoffs and picked up 12 ground balls.
UP NEXT Following Wednesday's action, Christopher Newport will cap off its four-game homestand with a 4 p.m. battle against Hampden-Sydney on Saturday.
