NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- This weekend, the CNU women's tennis team will play three matches as part of the CNU Quad, hosted at Centre Court Racquet Club. The Captains will take on Methodist University (0-0) and Roanoke College (0-0) on Saturday, February 13, before matching up in a key conference battle against Salisbury University (0-0) on Sunday, February 14.
Christopher Newport opened their season last week against N.C. Wesleyan with a 9-0 shutout of the Battling Bishops. The other three teams will be making their season debut this weekend at the CNU Quad, with matches scheduled for Noon and 3:00 pm on Saturday, with the third and final match played at 10:00 am on Sunday.
The first two matchups will feature the 37th-ranked Captains against former conference foes from Methodist University at Noon on Saturday, while Salisbury is pitted against the Maroons. Then, at 3:00 pm, CNU will face Roanoke while the Sea Gulls take on Methodist. Finally, Methodist and Roanoke will tangle in non-conference action on Sunday, while CNU hosts their first CAC tilt of the year against Salisbury.
In the first match of the year, CNU was led by
Claire Dockrill, who did not surrender a game to her opponent in singles play, and also captured an 8-0 double victory for the Captains. Three more Captains picked up wins in both singles and doubles, including sophomore
McKinney Harwood playing at the No. 1 position in both formats.
