No. 19 CNU Women's Soccer Takes on Frostburg State Saturday at 5:00 pm

FROSTBURG, Md. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team is back in action on the road Saturday, October 8, traveling to face Frostburg State University in conference action. The Captains (9-1-0, 3-0-0) will take on the Bobcats (5-7-0, 2-1-0) at 5:00 pm, as part of a doubleheader with the men's teams.

The Captains offense has been red-hot over the last five games, averaging over five goals per game and coming off back-to-back punishing eight-goal victories against conference opponents. Behind one of the most potent attacks in the nation, the Captains have posted their best record through ten games in program history.

CNU is averaging 3.90 goals per game, powered primarily by senior leading scorer Victoria Perry. The Purcellville, Va. native has registered her third straight 20-point season after putting away eight goals and six assists for 22 points so far this year. Also in double figure scoring this year are rookie Carson Pokorny, with three goals and a team-high seven assists, and sophomore Kayla Locklear, with five goals and an assist. The offensive depth has been impressive, with 16 different players scoring at least one goal this season.

Defensively, the Captains are potentially even more dangerous, allowing just four goals through the first ten games. Junior goalkeeper Carly Maglio has played all 900 minutes for a 0.40 goals-against average, picking up six shutouts. Maglio is also the league leader in save percentage, stopping 34 shots on-goal for an .895 mark.

CNU and Frostburg State have played close the last several meetings, with a record of 1-1-2 over the last four. In those four contests, a team only scored more than one goal once, when CNU defeated Frostburg State, 2-1, in 2013.

The Bobcats are coming off an important win over Mary Washington, bouncing back after a pair of losses. Frostburg State has been led offensively by Brooke Shields, factoring into seven of the team's 14 goals this year. She has three goals and four assists for a team-leading 10 points, while Haley Dalphon and Melanie Bell each have scored three goals. In between the pipes, Karen Belteton has started nine games, but has split minutes almost right down the middle with Rhianna Lapen. Both players have 35 saves and goals-against averages around 1.50 this year.

Weather permitting, live stats and a live video webcast will be available at kickoff. Links to both can be found at the women's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.
