CNU Women's Tennis Closes Fall Schedule on Saturday in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The fall portion of the 2016-17 women's tennis team will come to a close this weekend, as the Captains travel to Carnegie Mellon University for a pair of dual matches on Saturday.  Christopher Newport will face Oberlin College at 9:00 am in a neutral site matchup, followed by a 3:30 battle against the host Tartans.

Game times were adjusted from the originally published schedule due to potential inclement weather.

All three teams involved in the autumnal bout finished last season in the national rankings with Carnegie Mellon ranked 12th, CNU at No. 32 and Oberlin tied for 40th. Weather permitting, live stats will be available for both of CNU's matches, and live video for the match against Carnegie Mellon. Links can be found at the women's tennis schedule on CNUsports.com.

So far this season, rookie Johanna Ranta-aho has led the way for the Captains, becoming the first player to advance to the ITA Southeast Regional Championship semifinals. She has posted five singles wins, tied for the team lead through the first three events of the season. Sophomore Lily Schreiber also has five wins after winning her flight at the ITA Regionals.

Last season, Christopher Newport posted a 14-8 overall record and reached the CAC Championship for the second straight year.
