CNU Field Hockey Hosts St. Mary’s (Md.) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in CAC Clash

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Continuing its three-game homestand, the Christopher Newport field hockey team will welcome St. Mary's (Md.) to town on Wednesday at 6 p.m. for a Capital Athletic Conference battle at Captains Turf Field.
 
Entering the contest, Christopher Newport sits at 9-3 on the season, including 0-1 in league action. Meanwhile, St. Mary's is 3-8 overall and 1-1 in the CAC.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS
 
After registering their fifth shutout of the season last week, the Captains enter Wednesday ranked ninth in the nation with a 0.75 goals-against-average. The squad also sits 10th in the country with an .833 save percentage. On an individual level, Bailey Lien's 0.84 goals-against-average places her 12th in the NCAA, while Sarah Miller's six defensive saves also rank 12th in the country and second in the conference.
 
On the other side of the field, Rachael Allshouse leads CNU with nine goals, marking the most by a Captain since 2013. Meanwhile, Abby Cryts and Madison Doss both have five goals apiece, and Josie Morgan sits second on the team with 11 points. Overall, Christopher Newport has out-scored its opposition, 31-9, this year.
 
LAST TIME OUT
 
On Sunday, the Captains kicked off their homestand with a 2-0 victory over Roanoke. Facing the nation's sixth-ranked attack, CNU held the Maroons scoreless as Lien contributed three saves and Miller added a pair of defensive stops. On the other side, Doss and Cryts posted a pair of second-half strikes to pace the attack. Allshouse and Bailey Miller also contributed assists during the victory.
 
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS
 
St. Mary's (Md.) saw its two-game roll snapped on Saturday during a hard-fought 3-2 setback at Mary Washington. Megan Moore and Mollie Belson both scored for SMC, while Alyssa Thompson added four saves, but the Eagles struck off a corner in the 49th minute to seal the victory. Overall this season, Carly Todd leads the Seahawks with six goals and 14 points, while Moore has scored five times. Defensively, Thompson has a .700 save percentage and 2.14 goals-against-average.
 
SERIES HISTORY
 
CNU and St. Mary's have met 12 times with the Captains holding a 10-2 edge in the all-time series. Last year, the Captains registered a 3-2 overtime victory in Maryland. Brittan Muir notched a goal and two assists in that game, while Morgan also added a strike. Lien made four saves to earn the win.
