NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Capital Athletic Conference play continues on Wednesday as the Captains of Christopher Newport hit the road for a men's and women's doubleheader at Penn State-Harrisburg. The women's battle will begin at 5:00 p.m. followed by the men's clash at 7:00 p.m. at the Lions Court in Middletown, PA.

Both CNU squads are coming off convincing victories over Southern Virginia Saturday at the Freeman Center to open the 2016 portion of the schedule. Bill Broderick's women's team doubled up SVU, 106-53, to improve to 9-2 overall and 2-2 in conference play. John Krikorian's men's squad used a second half surge to power past the Knights, 70-45, and improve to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the CAC.

The men's contest measures up as a first-place showdown as the Lions enter play 3-1 in the CAC and 8-3 overall. The Penn State-Harrisburg men are 5-0 at home this season, and can pull even with the Captains in the league standings with a triumph. The Lions are coming off a 76-72 win at nearby York College last Saturday. The CNU men are 3-1 all-time vs. the Lions.

CNU's men's team, which Tuesday dropped to 13th in the country in the latest national poll from D3hoops.com, has been powered by its defense. The Captains are ranked in the Top 10 nationally again this week in two primary defensive categories. CNU is fifth in the country in points allowed per game (58.8) and seventh in the nation in field goal defense (opponents are shooting just 37 percent from the field).

A pair of sophomores, Marcus Carter and Aaron McFarland, continue to pace the offense. Carter, from Williamsburg, is now averaging 15.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. McFarland, a product of Richmond, tops the team in scoring off the bench, averaging 15.8 points per game.

The CNU women continue to benefit from balanced scoring, as five Captains reached double figures in Saturday's win over Southern Virginia. Sophomore Sam Porter, a product of Alexandria, leads the squad in scoring at 9.5 points per game. Five other Captains are averaging between seven and nine points per contest.

The Captains are currently third in the nation in steals per game at 17.7, and are 4-0 all-time against the Lions.

The Penn State-Harrisburg women can also pull even with CNU with a win. The Lions are 1-3 in CAC play and are 5-6 on the season, and are coming off a loss at York on Saturday, 62-45.

Live video of the games will be available on CNUsports.com/live, and all Christopher Newport men's games are also broadcast live on the CNU/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show set to begin at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday night.
