SALISBURY, Md. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to No. 11 Salisbury for a key Capital Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. at Sea Gull Stadium.
On a two-game roll, CNU enters the battle with an 8-3 record, including a 3-1 mark in CAC action. The Captains currently sit third in the league standings, while Salisbury is at the top of the conference with a 9-4 overall record and a 5-0 mark against CAC foes.
Wednesday's game is only the second all-time meeting between the two programs. Last year, Christopher Newport posted an 8-7 overtime triumph at Captains Turf Field.

The Captains enter the game following a record-setting 29-5 victory over Southern Virginia on Saturday. During the contest, CNU established new single-game program records with 29 goals, 19 assists, 31 faceoff victories, and 65 ground balls. On an individual level,
Joey Rolando led Christopher Newport with seven points, including five assists.
Alex Barber also contributed four goals, while
Andrew Ashley notched his first career hat-trick.
So far this season, the Captains have been led by an explosive offensive attack, which ranks fourth nationally with a 16.09 goals-per-game average. The team also stands among the top-five in the NCAA with 110 assists and 287 points. CNU has been especially productive in man-up situations as the squad has converted 47 percent of their extra-man opportunities, which ranks eighth nationally.
Barber and
John Thompson have been incredibly productive on the extra-man unit as the two are tied for 14th in the nation with seven man-up goals. Thompson also sits 37th nationally with a 2.82 goals-per-game average, while Barber is 22nd with a .488 shooting percentage. On the defensive end,
Matt Hayden has a .541 save percentage and an 8.99 goals-against-average.
Brandon Moloney has also forced a team-high 11 turnovers, and
Tony Cruz boasts a .622 faceoff winning percentage.
Salisbury enters Wednesday riding a three-game winning streak, including a 20-6 victory over Marymount on Saturday. Against the Saints, Thomas Cirillo netted five points, including four goals. Overall this season, he leads the team with 37 points, while Carson Kalama has a team-high 28 goals. Connor Anderson has paced the defense with a .604 save percentage, and Cameron Maples has won 60 percent of his faceoff attempts.
Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will return home on Saturday for a 1 p.m. battle against Wesley. Prior to the game, the Captains will hold their annual Senior Day ceremony.
