NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following a brief two-game road trip, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will return home on Saturday at 1 p.m. when CNU hosts Southern Virginia in a Capital Athletic Conference bout at Captains Turf Field.
Christopher Newport enters the weekend with a 7-3 record, including a 2-1 mark in CAC action. Southern Virginia sits at 1-10 overall and 0-4 in league play. Saturday's game will be the second all-time meeting between the Captains and Knights after CNU picked up a 17-4 victory in Buena Vista last year.

The Captains enter the weekend following a 14-11 triumph over Mary Washington in Fredericksburg on Wednesday. During that contest,
Randy Foster posted a team-high four points, while
John Thompson and
Dave Magdeburger contributed hat-tricks.
Will Geise also scored twice for CNU, and
Matt Hayden made nine saves to earn the victory.
Tony Cruz continued to impress on faceoffs as well with a 20-for-26 performance against UMW.
So far this season, Christopher Newport has been led by a potent offensive attack, which ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 14.80 goals-per-game average. The team also sits among the top-10 nationally with 91 assists, 239 points, and a .352 shot percentage.
On an individual level, Thompson ranks in the top-50 nationally with a 2.90 goals-per-game average. His 29 total scores also rank second in the Capital Athletic Conference, while Geise and Magdeburger are tied for fourth in the league with 16 assists. Defensively, Hayden has a .545 save percentage and a 9.09 goals-against-average.
Brandon Moloney has also caused 10 turnovers, which is 11th in the conference.
Southern Virginia comes into the game on a three-game skid, including a 22-10 setback at Marymount on Wednesday. Against the Saints, Casey Rich posted five points, including four goals. So far this season, he leads the team with 41 points, 28 goals, and 13 assists. On the defensive end, Derek Lamb has a .401 save percentage and a 16.79 goals-against-average, while Shawn Tikala has forced six turnovers.
After Saturday's battle, Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. showdown at No. 13 Salisbury.
