BUENA VISTA, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will open up the final week of the regular season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when the Captains travel to Southern Virginia for a Capital Athletic Conference showdown at the SVU Fields.
Entering the game, CNU sits at 8-6 overall, including a 4-2 mark in league action. The Captains are currently in fourth-place in the league standings and are assured of at least one home game in the upcoming conference playoffs. Southern Virginia currently sits at 0-13 overall and 0-6 in the CAC.

Christopher Newport is coming off of an 18-5 victory over Marymount during the squad's regular season home finale on Saturday. During the game,
Erin Callahan contributed six points, including a team-high three assists.
Kylie Chaplin,
Carly Wilson,
Meaghan Galvin, and
Catie Chess all scored three times for the Captains as well. On the defensive end,
Mariah Ginebra forced three turnovers, while
Lindsay Weaver picked up four ground balls.
Throughout the year, CNU has been paced by a potent offensive attack, which leads the conference with a 13.43 goals-per-game average. Galvin currently sits third in the league with 38 goals, while Chess is fourth with 34. Chaplin has also served a key function on the offensive end and ranks fourth in the conference with 19 assists. Galvin has dished out 18 helpers as well, while Callahan has 13.
On the defensive end, Ginebra stands ninth in the league with 17 caused turnovers, while
Tess D'Arcy and
Kirsten Mendelsohn have 15 apiece.
Hanna Slough has also been a force between the pipes with a .429 save percentage and a 10.27 goals-against-average. With her victory against Marymount on Saturday, she also moved into a tie with Gayle Robinson for the top spot on the program's all-time career wins list with 36.
Southern Virginia enters Wednesday following a 16-4 setback against York on Saturday. During the game, Zoe Bradshaw scored twice for the Knights, while Rainey Whitworth forced a pair of turnovers. Overall this season, Whitworth leads SVU with 32 goals, while Cammi Miller boasts a conference-high 112 saves.
Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when the Captains travel to York for a noon battle.
