NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will wrap up its regular season home slate on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when CNU welcomes St. Mary's to town for a Capital Athletic Conference clash at Captains Turf Field.
Christopher Newport comes into the game with a 9-4 record, while St. Mary's sits at 5-5 overall. In league play, both squads boast 4-2 marks, and the winner of Wednesday's game will be guaranteed of at least one home playoff game in the upcoming CAC Tournament.

The Captains enter Wednesday following a 20-4 victory over Wesley on Saturday. During that game,
Will Geise and
Brooks Billings both contributed five-point efforts, while
John Thompson added a hat-trick.
Randy Foster also scored twice for CNU, and
Nick Kirschke won 15 of 24 faceoffs to go along with six ground balls.
Throughout the year, Christopher Newport has displayed a potent offensive attack, which ranks sixth in the nation with a 15.38 goals-per-game average. The squad also sits third nationally with 122 assists, fourth with 322 points, and ninth with a .355 shooting percentage. Especially effective during man-up situations, CNU is 10th in the NCAA with a .458 conversion rate on extra-man advantages.
On an individual level, Thompson is third in the conference with 34 goals, while
Alex Barber is 12th nationally with eight man-up strikes. Barber is also 24th in the NCAA with a .479 shooting percentage, and Thompson is 36th with a .466 mark.
Defensively,
Brandon Moloney has put together a solid year with a team-high 15 caused turnovers to go along with 42 ground balls. Anchoring the squad between the pipes,
Matt Hayden has a .534 save percentage and a 9.39 goals-against-average. Overall, the Captains are limiting the opposition to 8.69 goals-per-game and a .266 shooting percentage.
St. Mary's comes into Wednesday on a two-game roll, including a 15-6 victory at Marymount on Saturday. Overall this season, Eric Simon has a team-high 26 goals, while Matt Tarrant has 10 assists. Joey Casey has led the defense with a .534 save percentage, while Mike Freiji has seven caused turnovers.
Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when the Captains head to York for a 3 p.m. battle.
