CNU Men’s Lacrosse Travels to Mary Washington for a CAC Showdown on Wednesday

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. --
The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to Mary Washington on Wednesday for a key Capital Athletic Conference contest with the Eagles at UMW's Battleground Athletic Complex.

The Captains enter the game with a 6-3 record, including a 1-1 mark in conference action. Mary Washington sits at 4-4 this season with a 1-2 record in the CAC.

Wednesday's game marks the 10th all-time meeting between the Captains and Eagles. Currently, UMW holds an 8-1 lead in the series, including a pair of victories last year. During the 2014 campaign, Mary Washington posted a 13-6 triumph during a regular season bout in Newport News before topping CNU, 13-4, in Fredericksburg during the first round of the CAC playoffs.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a 14-8 setback at Frostburg State on Saturday. During the game, Will Geise recorded four points, including three assists, while Brooks Billings and Alex Barber both contributed a pair of goals. On the defensive end, Matt Hayden made 10 saves and Brandon Moloney added a pair of caused turnovers.

So far this season, CNU ranks sixth in the nation with a 14.89 goals-per-game average and seventh with a .352 shot percentage. The team has been especially potent during man-up situations as the Captains have converted 47 percent of their opportunities, which ranks 12th in the NCAA.

On an individual level, John Thompson stands ninth in the country with seven man-up goals. The senior standout also ranks 36th with a 2.89 goals-per-game average. Additionally, Geise sits 27th in the NCAA with a 2.00 assists-per-game mark, while Tony Cruz is 61st with a .578 face-off winning percentage. Hayden also sits among the CAC leaders with an 8.83 goals-against-average.

Mary Washington enters Wednesday on a minor two-game skid, including a 9-6 setback against York on Saturday. Jack Bondurant has led the Eagles this season and ranks fifth in the conference with 22 goals. Miles Davis also has a team-high 11 assists and stands second with 18 points. On the defensive end, Colin Bressan and Pete Shammas have split time between the pipes while combining for an 8.88 goals-against-average.

Following Wednesday's game, Christopher Newport will return home for a match-up with Southern Virginia on Saturday at 1 p.m.
