The Captains (11-3, 4-0) cruised past Penn State Harrisburg, 9-0, and handled York College (Pa.), 8-1.
First, in the morning hours of a cold, spring Saturday, Christopher Newport raced out to a 3-0 lead over the Lions (2-6, 0-2), winning all three doubles matches with just one game lost.
Katie Carlson and
Kate Huck captured an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, beating Shawna Brandt and Jessy Miller, and
Logan Eldridge paired with
Meili Konell for a win at No. 3 by the same score, topping Fay Ansary and Aiba Diaby.
At No. 2 doubles, rookies
Alexandra Drye and
McKinney Harwood won, 8-1, over Steph Harnden and Hilary Mataure, giving the Captains a 3-0 lead. The dominance carried over into singles play, as CNU posted four perfect 6-0, 6-0 matches on lines 3-6. Eldridge, Huck,
Isabelle Wessel and
Emily Morgan posted the wins in order, as Morgan made her collegiate dual debut in fine fashion. Wessel improved to 4-0 this season, with a 2-0 mark at No. 5.
Rounding out the win against Penn State Harrisburg, Harwood defeated Miller on the top line, 6-4, 6-1, and Drye surrendered just a single game, 6-0, 6-1, in her win over Brandt at No. 2.
After the match wrapped up, CNU and York moved their tilt indoors to the Centre Court Racquet Club and aside from a loss at No. 1 singles, the Captains were nearly equally as dominant in their second match of the day.
In doubles, Drye and Harwood won 8-0 at No. 2, leading the way over Megan Jones and Emily Price. Carlson and Huck won, 8-3, at No. 1 and Eldridge and Konell collected an 8-2 win to give CNU a 3-0 lead.
Heading into singles with momentum, CNU would not disappoint. Konell was perfect in her first career win at No. 2, winning 6-0, 6-0, while Eldridge and Wessel also posted straight set flawless wins.
Kristi Wong, like Morgan, made her collegiate dual debut in the No. 6 slot, and impressed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Carter Vaughn.
The Spartans lone win came over Drye in the top spot, as Katie Wagner won 6-2, 6-3.
CNU will return to action on Sunday, facing off against NCAA Division I opponent George Mason University on the road. The Patriots and Captains will start play at 2:00 pm.
