NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday at 2 p.m. when CNU hosts Marymount at Captains Turf Field.
Christopher Newport enters the contest with a 5-2 record. Marymount sits at 3-4 overall. The Saints are also 0-1 in league play after dropping a 14-7 decision to Frostburg State last week.
Saturday's game will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the Captains and Saints. Currently, CNU holds a 3-2 edge in the all-time series. Last year, Christopher Newport registered a 9-5 victory in Arlington.

The Captains enter the contest after seeing their three-game winning streak come to an end on Wednesday at Eastern. During the battle,
John Thompson contributed his fourth straight hat-trick, while
Randy Foster added a pair of goals.
Matt Hayden also had a solid effort on the defensive end as the sophomore matched his career-high with 17 saves.
Overall this season, CNU has been paced by a potent offensive attack. The team currently ranks in the top-10 nationally with a 15.57 goals-per-game average and .366 shot percentage. The Captains have also converted 51 percent of their man-up opportunities, which stands 10th in the NCAA.
On an individual, Thompson has already tied his career-high with 19 goals. He and
Dave Magdeburger also lead the way with 21 points. Rounding out a well-balanced attack,
Brooks Billings and
Will Geise have 20 points apiece, while
Alex Barber is third on the team with 12 goals.
Defensively, Hayden boasts a .583 save percentage and an 8.31 goals-against-average. The team has also caused 55 turnovers, including six apiece by
Brandon Moloney and
Michael Mabry.
Tony Cruz has had success on faceoffs as well as the reigning CAC Player of the Week boasts a .610 winning percentage and a league-high 72 faceoff victories.
Marymount enters the game having won three of its last four games, including a 16-12 triumph against Shenandoah on Wednesday. The Saints have been led by Matt Justice, who has a team-high 17 points and 13 goals. Nico Burns, Garrett Nealon, and Jimmy Wendell all have 13 points as well. On the defensive end, Mike Kempel has a .496 save percentage and a 9.15 goals-against-average. Andrew Fournier has also won 54 of his 98 faceoff attempts.
Following Saturday's game, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 28 for a 1 p.m. showdown at Frostburg State.
