Video StreamNEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will kick off Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday when CNU welcomes Wesley to Captains Turf Field for a 1 p.m. showdown.
Following a 17-4 victory over Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday, the Captains enter the weekend with a 3-3 record. Wesley is currently riding a four-game winning streak and sits at 4-1 overall.

In their last outing, the Captains used a well-balanced attack to storm past Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday. During the contest, six players notched at least two goals, including a six-point outburst by
Erin Callahan.
Meaghan Galvin also contributed a hat-trick and eight draw controls, while
Lindsay Weaver,
Kylie Chaplin,
Caitlin King, and
Catie Chess all added two goals apiece.
On the defensive end,
Tess D'Arcy forced two turnovers and collected three ground balls, while
Hanna Slough added five saves on the way to the victory.
Through six games, Christopher Newport has several performers ranked among the statistical leaders in the CAC. Galvin currently boasts a league-high 25 draw controls and sits third with nine assists. Chaplin has also been spectacular this year, ranking second in the CAC with 24 points and 12 assists.
Kirsten Mendelsohn has done fine work as well as the junior ranks fifth with 14 ground balls and eighth with eight caused turnovers.
Slough has also been a force for CNU between the pipes. The junior ranks second in the conference with 46 saves. Her .460 save percentage also sits third in the league, while her 9.00 goals-against-average is the fourth-finest in the CAC this season.
Wesley comes into the weekend on a four-game winning streak, including a pair of triumphs during the squad's Spring Break trip to Hilton Head, South Carolina this week. The Wolverines opened up the trek with a 17-10 victory over Manhattanville before taking down New England College, 13-9, on Thursday.
During the season, Wesley has been led by Rylee Gould and Kaitlin Brennan, who both have double-digit point totals. Savannah Clough has anchored the team on the defensive end, notching an 8.95 goals-against-average and a .469 save percentage.
Following Saturday's contest, Christopher Newport will return to action on March 19 for a 3 p.m. battle with McDaniel at Captains Turf Field.
