NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following four straight road games to open up the 2015 campaign, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will kick off its home slate this week as CNU hosts Virginia Wesleyan at 7 p.m. on Wednesday before welcoming the Coast Guard Academy to Captains Turf Field on Friday at 7 p.m.
Entering Wednesday's action, Christopher Newport sits at 3-1 on the season. Virginia Wesleyan is currently 2-1, while the Coast Guard Academy is 0-2.
Wednesday's game will mark the seventh all-time meeting between the Captains and Marlins. VWC currently holds a 4-2 edge in the series, but CNU won last year's game, 18-9. Meanwhile, Christopher Newport and the Coast Guard Academy have never played in lacrosse.

Christopher Newport has been off for the last week after taking down Methodist, 23-6, during a record-setting performance on March 4. During the game, the squad set new single-game program records with 23 goals and 23 faceoff victories.
Will Geise led the way with seven points, including four assists. His seven points rank fourth on CNU's single-game scoring list.
John Thompson also scored three times against the Monarchs and now boasts a team-high nine goals this season.
Dave Magdeburger has also been an offensive force for CNU with 12 points, including seven assists.
Joey Rolando and
Brooks Billings have each contributed 10 points this season as well.
On the defensive end,
Matt Hayden has started three games in goal while compiling a .571 save percentage and an 8.40 goals-against-average. The Captains have also forced 22 turnovers this year, including three by
Brandon Moloney.
Tony Cruz has anchored the squad on faceoffs as the freshman has won 38 of his 72 battles. He also leads CNU with 18 ground balls.
Virginia Wesleyan enters Wednesday's game after defeating Coast Guard, 12-3, on Sunday. During the game, four Marlins posted two goals, including a four-point outburst by John Roth. Duncan Haight also won 12 of his 15 faceoffs, while Rory Finnegan contributed 12 saves. Overall, Joe Papetti leads VWC with 12 points this season, while Josh Currier has 11.
In the team's setback to Virginia Wesleyan on Sunday, Coast Guard received goals from Justin Huemme, Quinn Hathcock, and Matt Huemme. Ryan Carpenter also added nine saves. Through two games, Carpenter has 12 stops for the Bears, while Kurt Caminske has seven. Robert McKenna leads the offense with three goals, and Nick Chicoine has done solid work on faceoffs, winning 15 of his 29 attempts.
Following this week's action, Christopher Newport will return to the field on March 18 when the Captains travel to Eastern for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
