CNU Men's BasketballNEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Starting the second half of the conference season and keying the final run of the regular season, the Captains will host Frostburg State University in a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Game times are set for 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, with the men's game following approximately 25 minutes after the women's game concludes. Live stats and video will be available for both contests.
Earlier this season, CNU traveled to Frostburg State and swept the first matchup against the Bobcats. The CNU women earned an 85-49 win and the Captains men's team picked up an 85-67 victory on the road.
On Saturday, the CNU men will put its 12-4 record on the line against the 8-8 Bobcats. CNU is tied for second in the league with a 7-2 conference mark, while Frostburg State sits in the number six spot with a 4-5 record. Elsewhere in the CAC, the first-place Marymount Saints will travel to St. Mary's (Md.), who are currently tied with the Captains for second.
Sophomore Tim Daly and freshman Marcus Carter have led the charge as CNU has made its case as one of the top teams in the conference. The Captains boast the league's leading scoring offense, averaging 72.1 points per game as Daly and Carter each are pouring in over 14 points per contest. The two are also CNU's top rebounders, hauling in eight and six rbeounds per game, respectively.
Frostburg State comes into the game looking to spoil a strong run by CNU that includes wins in seven of their last eight games. After starting the year 6-3, the Bobcats have suffered five losses in the last seven games, but are coming off a 25-point win at Southern Virginia on Wednesday night. Transfer Jerel Carter leads the conference in assists per game with four helpers per game, and is also the team's second leading scorer with 10.0 points per game. Nick Smoot, a strong three-point shooter, leads the team with 13.5 points per game, while Jabari Kamau is third on the squad in scoring while boasting a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.
Prior tot he men's contest, the CNU women will look to bounce back after a tough loss at home on Wednesday to Mary Washington. The setback dropped CNU to 10-6 overall this season with a 6-3 record in conference play. They will be facing a Bobcats team that hasn't won since a double-overtime victory in the season opener, stuck in a 13-game slide. Frostburg State is 1-13 overall with an 0-9 mark in CAC action.

Camry Green is just three rebounds shy of 900 for her career, and leads the team in both scoring and rebounding. The lone fourth-year for the Captains is seventh in the CAC in scoring, at 12.4 points per game, and second in the conference in rebounding, at 12.3 rebounds per game. With just nine games remaining in the regular season, she is looking to become the first player since Colandra Rollins in 2007-08 to average a double-double for the season.
Joining Green on the league's leading offense is rookie
Sam Porter, pouring in 9.1 points per game off the bench, and junior
Jordan Miller, averaging 8.3 points per game as the team's leading three-point shooter. At the point guard slot, sophomore
Lauren Cox, with 3.1 assists per game, and rookie
Makenzie Fancher, with 2.3 per game, have combined to manage the offense.
CNU will have to contend with one of the Capital's most dynamic scorers as they face the Bobcats on Saturday. Senior Ronje' James ranks third in the conference with 18.1 points per game in 31 minutes of action per contest. In the earlier matchup, James was saddled with foul trouble in the first half, but still managed to score a team-high 18 points in the game. Senior Jasmine Walker, a top shot blocker in the conference, is the only other FSU player in double figures with 10.1 points per game.
The Freeman Center will open at 1:00 pm for fans. CNU will be on the road for two games next week, traveling to Southern Virginia University on Wednesday, January 28, and then on to York College (Pa.) on Saturday, January 31.
