CNU Women's Soccer Travels to No. 5 Lynchburg For 2:00 pm Kickoff Sunday

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- On Sunday at 2:00 pm, the Christopher Newport University women's soccer team will face off against one of the nation's top programs as they travel to No. 5 Lynchburg College (5-0-0). The Captains, off to a 4-1-2 start this season, will look to knock off the veteran Hornets squad for the first time since 2006.

Fans that can't make the trip to Lynchburg College will be able to watch the game on a live video webcast or via live stats hosted by the Lynchburg College Athletic Department. Links to both can be found at the CNUsports.com website on the women's soccer schedule.

Led by sophomore Victoria Perry, the CNU offense has been a force to start the season, averaging 2.71 goals per game through the first seven contests. Perry, one of the nation's leading scorers with 20 points already this year, has led the charge with nine goals and two assists. The Purcellville, Va. native has scored all four of CNU's game-winning goals and has two hat tricks already this year, including one in the Captains' last contest at Shenandoah University on Wednesday.

Senior Sarah Perrett is also having a strong season in her final year with the program, scoring four goals to rank second on the team in scoring. Five more players have registered at least one goal so far this season, including three from players in their first or second season with the program. In total, freshmen and sophomores account for 35 of the team's 56 points scored this season, or over 62% of the total.

The young, talented CNU group will be taking on a highly-experienced club on the other side. The Hornets were 22-2 a year ago and 21-1-3 the year before that, meaning the junior and seniors on the field for the Hornets have lost just three games in the last two-plus seasons. Even tougher at home, Dr. Todd Olsen's squad boasts a 25-0-1 mark at home in that same span.

Leading the way are seniors Dessi Dupuy and Angela Bosco, combining for 22 total points in the first five games for Lynchburg. Bosco has twice been named the ODAC Player of the Week as she has led the team with six goals and one assist. As a team, the Hornets are outscoring opponents 20-2 this season, as the defense has been tough to score on with sophomore goalkeeper Tess Frelick facing just eight shots on-goal.

Following this weekend's matchup, the Captains will return to action a week later at home, hosting Wesley College in the conference opener on Saturday, September 27 at 1:00 pm
