FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Led by dominant doubles play, the Christopher Newport women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 victory over York College (Pa.) on Friday afternoon, improving to 6-10 on the season with a 2-1 mark in league play. The Spartans fall to 1-9, 0-4 in CAC action, as the Captains held York to just five games won on the day. 

In doubles action, all three pairs pulled away clean 8-0 victories. Senior Jodi Noland played with rookie Katie Carlson in the top spot, defeating Mckenzie Krout and Darian Naill. At No. 2, Logan Eldridge and Jackie Gaine cruised to a win, and at No. 3 Brook Byrd played with Kelsey Clark to help CNU sweep doubles play. 

Heading into singles with a 3-0 lead, the Captains would make quick work of the Spartans, dropping just five games. Eldridge (No.2), Calrson (No. 3) and Gaine (No. 4) were perfect on the day, scooping up 6-0, 6-0 wins for CNU. Eldridge brought down Emily Price, Carlson faced Naill and Gaine defeated Emily Skutknik. 

In the No. 1 singles match, Noland defeated Dea Vlahos; 6-0, 6-1. Clark beat Krout by the same score in the No. 5 line, while Katlyn Yarborough finished out the flawless win for CNU with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 over Megan Jones. 

CNU returns to action this weekend with a pair of home matches against league foes. The Captains host Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, April 5, and Salisbury University on Sunday, April 6.
