Box Score 2 BRIDGEWATER, Va.- The Christopher Newport University softball team had its five-game winning streak snapped Thursday afternoon. The Captains, ranked 14th in the country, split a non-conference doubleheader at Bridgewater College. CNU let a 2-0 lead get away in the late innings in the opener, and fell to the Eagles in eight innings, 4-2.
Keith Parr's team bounced back in a big way in the nightcap to win, 10-2, in a game shortened to five innings due to the eight-run rule.
Christopher Newport is now 22-6 for the season.The Captains have secured at least 20 victories for the 25th straight season. 2014 is the 30th year in the history of CNU softball.
The Captains held a 2-0 lead in the first game thanks to single runs in the second and third innings. CNU plated an unearned run in the second inning and then sophomore catcher

Krista Lewis pitched a shutout into the fifth inning before being relieved by freshman
Makayla Jenkins. Lewis and Jenkins each gave up runs in the fifth inning as the Eagles tied the game at 2-2.
Bridgewater won the game in exciting fashion on a walk-off, two-run home run in the eighth inning by designated hitter Haley Harris. Jenkins suffered the loss, falling to 2-1 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Captains bounced back by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning and then seven more in the fifth for a 10-2 victory. CNU's offensive outburst was led by McLaughlin and sophomore
Tori Clarke, who each drove in two runs. The Captains posted 10 runs on 11 hits in game two.

Hanah Marshall went the distance in the circle, allowing just two unearned runs in the third inning. Marshall scattered four hits and improved her record for the season to 8-3.
Christopher Newport returns home for a big weekend of action. The Captains host Capital Athletic Conference doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Captains Park. On Saturday, CNU plays Southern Virginia and Sunday the opponent will be Frostburg State. Both twin bills are set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
