ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. --
The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to get back to its winning ways on Saturday when the Captains head to St. Mary's for a showdown with the reigning Capital Athletic Conference champions at 3 p.m. at Seahawk Stadium.

Following a setback to No. 14 Mary Washington on Wednesday, CNU enters the game with a 9-3 record, including a 3-2 mark in league action. St. Mary's comes in at 5-7 with a 1-2 record in the CAC. Six of the Seahawks' seven losses have come against top-20 programs, including four in the top-10 of the USILA national poll.

The two programs have battled five times with St. Mary's holding a pristine 5-0 mark in those meetings. The Seahawks won last year's tilt, 12-6, in Maryland.

Admission for Saturday's game will be $5 and all proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. There will also be food vendors and a silent auction at the game to support the veterans' service organization.

For those fans unable to make it out to the game, St. Mary's will provide live stats and a web stream of the action. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

After earning votes in the USILA national poll for the first time in program history, the Captains stumbled against 14th-ranked Mary Washington on Wednesday. During the contest, Brooks Billings scored a pair of goals, while Michael Mabry and Brandon Moloney each forced three turnovers, but the Eagles escaped Newport News with a 13-6 victory.

Entering the weekend, Brenden Dwyer leads the CAC with 25 caused turnovers, which also ranks second in CNU history. Teddy Pekalski and Steven West have also been intimidating forces along the back line. Pekalski ranks third in the conference with 22 caused turnovers, while West sits fifth with 20. Matt Hayden has been strong between the pipes as well, compiling an 8.26 goals-against-average and a .522 save percentage.

On the offensive end, Aaron Chrzaszcz ranks eighth in the league with 21 goals, while Brooks Billings has scored 16 times. John Thompson, Adam Abbate, Joey Rolando, and Randy Foster have all tallied at least 10 goals as well. In addition to his 11 scores, Abbate also leads the way with 12 assists and has chipped in with 32 ground balls as well.

Entering the game on a minor two-game skid, St. Mary's has been led by Matt Tarrant, who boasts a team-high 29 points and 10 assists. Ben Love has also been outstanding on the attack, notching 21 goals for the Seahawks. On the defensive end, Zack Blewett has a .518 save percentage and an 11.00 goals-against-average, while David Mitchell-McShane has 15 caused turnovers and 19 ground balls.
