NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to extend its program-record roll on Saturday at 1 p.m. when the squad hosts Frostburg State in a Capital Athletic Conference battle at Captains Turf Field.
Entering the weekend on a roll, CNU boasts a 7-1 record, including a 1-0 mark in CAC action. Frostburg State has been equally impressive, compiling an 8-2 mark with a 1-1 record in league play.
The two programs have met only once in history with the Bobcats escaping Newport News with a 7-6 victory last year.

In their last outing, the Captains extended their winning streak with a 16-3 victory over Methodist on Wednesday. During the contest,
John Thompson exploded for five points, including four goals, while
Joey Rolando,
Randy Foster, and
Hunter King all scored twice as well. Along with the offensive attack,
Nick Kirschke won 16 of his 21 faceoffs and the defense caused 15 turnovers to balance out a well-rounded win.
So far this season,
Aaron Chrzaszcz ranks among the league's top-10 with 18 goals. Billings and Foster have also scored at least 10 times each, while
Gregory Limon leads the squad with nine assists. Overall, the offense has averaged 12.59 goals-per-game and posted at least 16 tallies in each of the team's last three contests.
Not to be overlooked, the defense has locked down opposing attacks throughout the year. Limiting the opposition to less than nine goals-per-game,
Matt Hayden has been tremendous between the pipes. The freshman goalie has a .525 save percentage in 411 minutes of action.
Brenden Dwyer has also caused 16 turnovers this year, while
Teddy Pekalski and
Steven West have forced 15 apiece.
Kirschke has been a vital cog as well, winning 107 of his 178 faceoff attempts. Among eligible players with at least 100 faceoffs, he currently ranks fourth in the CAC with a 60 percent success rate.
Frostburg State has been impressive this year as well and enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak. Against LaRoche on Wednesday, Ryan Serio posted seven goals, while Tyler Haines picked up nine saves to earn the victory. Overall this year, Serio leads the league with 33 goals and 41 points. Devin Colegrove has been just as effective, dishing out 22 assists, which also stands as the top total in the CAC.
Along with the offense, the squad has received impressive contributions from Billy Lark, who has won 62 percent of his faceoffs. On the defensive end, Haines has a 6.67 goals-against-average and a .627 save percentage, while Zach Burkhardt has 14 caused turnovers.
