CNU Women's Tennis Drops Southern Virginia, Falls to No. 22 Washington & Lee

BUENA VISTA, Va. -- After suffering a 9-0 loss to 22nd-ranked Washington & Lee (11-1) on Saturday morning, the Christopher Newport University women's tennis team traveled to Southern Virginia University (3-8) and picked up a dominating victory, 9-0, over the Knights.

The Captains dropped just a pair of games in against the CAC foe, cruising to an impressive victory. In doubles action, CNU got a pair of 8-0 wins at No. 2 and No. 3, and an 8-1 victory at No. 1. Logan Eldridge and Jackie Gaine picked up their fifth win of the season at No. 2, while Kelsey Clark and Anna Chekalkina earned their second doubles win in their last three matches at No. 3. 

In singles action, the CNU women dominated from start to finish. Senior Jodi Noland cruised by Lauren Morrison (6-0, 6-0) at No. 1, while Eldridge, Gaine, Clark and Chekalkina all posted flawless wins at No. 2, 3, 5 & 6, respectively.

In the morning match against Washington & Lee, Eldridge dropped a 6-0, 6-1 match at No. 2 singles, falling to Meghan Buell. Gaine and Chekalkina also each won a game for CNU.

CNU will return to action on Sunday morning, taking on Frostburg State University at 10:00 am.
