NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday, October 7 as the Captains (6-2-2, 2-0-0) take on Southern Virginia University (5-5-2, 1-1-0) in Capital Athletic Conference action. CNU hosts the Knights at 5:30, as the Captains are looking for a third straight victory after going unbeaten in five of their last six games.
The game will be the first in a doubleheader with the men's teams, with live stats and a live video webcast available at CNUsports.com/live. Direct links will also be available on the women's soccer schedule at CNUsports.com.
The matchup will feature two of the league's most dynamic scorers as a pair of sophomores will square off in the Tuesday evening tilt. CNU sophomore
Victoria Perry and Southern Virginia's second-year forward Tatiana Monsen are atop the league standings in goals and points this season, as Monsen's 13 goals and 29 points lead the way, followed by Perry's nine scores and 20 total points. Monsen is on a tear, scoring eight goals in the last five games, leading the Knights to a 4-1-0 mark in that span.

Kimmie Kerstiens has posted a pair of tallies with four assists, sitting at third on the team with eight total points.
The defense has been stellar of late, as the Captains have posted shutouts in their last three wins. In fact, five of the six wins this season have come by way of the clean sheet, led by the shared goalkeeping duties of sophomore
Haley Casanova and rookie
Carly Maglio. Casanova has made 19 saves for a 79.2% save percentage and a 0.84 goals against average, while Maglio has allowed just four goals for a 1.00 GAA and a 73.3% save percentage.
Southern Virginia comes into Tuesday's game riding a three-game win streak, including their first ever conference victory over Penn State Harrisburg, 2-0. Monsen leads an offense that has scored 27 goals in the first 12 games, including five from Jamilla Gambee. Gambee has 11 points, and combined with Monsen, the two underclassmen have scored 40 of the 68 Knights points this season.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper Makenzie Cox has a 1.35 goals against average and a pair of shutouts for the Knights this season, posting a 78.6% save percentage with 44 stops.
Following Tuesday night's contest with Southern Virginia, the Captains will head back out on the road for a two-game trip this weekend, taking on Penn State Harrisburg on Saturday, October 11 at 4:00 pm, followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup with Elizabethtown in the non-conference finale.
