NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 13th-ranked Christopher Newport volleyball team will look to extend its five-match winning streak on Wednesday when the Captains host St. Mary's in a key Capital Athletic Conference match-up at 7 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
CNU enters Wednesday with a 23-3 record, including a pristine 5-0 mark in CAC action. St. Mary's is currently tied for third in the league standings with a 3-2 record. The Seahawks sit at 13-7 overall.
In 12 all-time meetings, St. Mary's holds a 7-5 edge in the series. However, Christopher Newport has won the previous three battles, including a 3-1 triumph in Maryland last year.

The Captains are coming off a pair of victories last week over CAC foes Wesley and Penn St. Harrisburg. During the two contests, CNU put on a clinic at the serving line. The squad peppered 18 aces against the Wolverines before one-upping that performance with 19 against the Lions.
Rachel Close and
Abby McIntyre both drilled seven aces, while
Katelyn Newsome contributed six during the two matches.
Nicole Nee and
Eliza Fisher had four apiece as well.
Guided by those efforts, Christopher Newport now ranks among the top-50 nationally with a 2.41 aces-per-set average. The Captains also sit in the top-25 in kills- and assists-per-frame, while their .278 hitting percentage is the fourth-highest in the NCAA.
On an individual level,
Hannah Miller ranks 13th in the country with a .373 hitting percentage. The sophomore standout also leads the Captains with 85 blocks and is tied with
Briana Sutton for the team-lead with 252 kills.
Rachel Conway also stands among the national leaders in assists-per-set. The junior setter is currently averaging 10.37 helpers per frame, which places her 20th in the country.
On the defensive end,
Brooke Moore has anchored the back row with 315 digs. Conway, Close, and McIntyre all have at least 100 as well. In addition to Miller,
Ashley Rock has been a guiding force up front with 72 blocks. Conway also has 53 rejections.
St. Mary's comes into Wednesday having won four of its previous five contests, including a 3-1 triumph over McDaniel on Saturday. Mandy Goodspeed has been the Seahawks' top offensive threat with 196 kills. She has also compiled a .317 hitting percentage, which places her third in the CAC. Carissa Hill has paced the defense with 277 digs, while Grace Chao has pumped 32 aces.
Following Wednesday's tilt, Christopher Newport will be back in action on Friday for a 7 p.m. battle against Randolph-Macon at the Freeman Center.
