Alyssa Dozier and Fielding Croft Collect Major Honors; Samantha Dorn Joins Trio of All-State Volleyball Selections

RICHMOND, Va. -- Christopher Newport captured two major awards and three Captains hauled in Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State honors for women's volleyball following the 2025 season. Senior Alyssa Dozier became the first Captain to earn State Player of the Year honors since 2015 while Fielding Croft hauled in Rookie of the Year plaudits, becoming just the fifth VaSID Rookie of the Year in program history. Both collected first team All-State certificates while junior Samantha Dorn also collected second team All-State plaudits.

Three All-State selections matches the most by the Captains since 2018 when four CNU players earned All-State recognition. Dozier earns her third consecutive first team selection and rounds out her illustrious career as a four-time All-State pick. Croft and Dorn each were selected All-State for the first time in their careers.

Adding another line to an already impressive ledger of individual accolades, Dozier rounded out her career as the eighth player in program history to earn State Player of the Year honors and the first since Briana Sutton picked up the recognition in 2015. Dozier also joins Sutton as the only two players in CNU lore to earn VaSID Rookie of the Year and Player of the Year certificates in her career.

The senior middle blocker from Arlington, Va. put together one of the most outstanding seasons in CNU volleyball history and wrapped up an unprecedented career in 2025. On the court, her record-setting performances included becoming the program's all-time leader in blocks while also finishing her tenure fourth all-time in kills and hitting percentage. Earning first team AVCA All-American plaudits this year, Dozier logged one of the most dominant single seasons in CNU lore with the most kills in a season since 2012 and a top-ten mark all-time. She became just the third player program history to hit over .400 for a full season (.402) and was subsequently honored as the C2C Offensive Player of the Year, C2C Defensive Player of the Year, and the AVCA Region VI Player of the Year.

While Dozier handled the finishing swing, the setup came from rookie Fielding Croft, who joins an elite list of just Kara Elder (2009), Sutton (2013), Sammy Carroll (2019), and Dozier (2022) to garner VaSID All-State Rookie of the Year honors. In her first year, Croft was tabbed the AVCA Region VI Freshman of the Year and went on to earn third team AVCA All-America honors.

After just one season, Croft has already cruised up the all-time assists chart at CNU with 1,076 in her first year. She now ranks 13th all-time at CNU and is one of only 14 players to log over a thousand assists in her career. The CNU rookie ranked in the top-25 nationally in total assists and was fifth among freshmen in Division III. She set a program record for assists by a freshman with 64 against Salisbury on October 18, which also ranks as the second most in a single match all-time at CNU. She added another 60-assist match on the road at Washington and Lee on October 4 and helped lead Christopher Newport to a top-ten team hitting percentage (.253) in Division III.

Rounding out the 2025 All-State selections was second team pick Samantha Dorn. A first team All-Conference pick, Dorn eclipsed 1,000 career kills during her third season. In her third year, Dorn hit a career-high .242 with 288 total kills while also adding 33 service aces, 13 assists, and 41 total blocks. She ranked second on the team in kills and logged a pair of 20-kill performances. Her season-high 21 kills came against Bridgewater on September 5 and she added a 20-kill showing against Salisbury on October 18.
