ROANOKE, Va. -- The CNU women's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, as they travel to Roanoke College for a 1:00 pm kickoff. The Captains (3-1-1) will be taking on the Maroons (2-1-1) in their fourth home game already this season. Live stats and live video will be available at CNUsports.com.
In their last game, the Captains had a big 2-0 shutout win over Virginia Wesleyan College, shaking off a 12-game winless streak against the Marlins. In that contest, senior forward Emma O'Reilly knocked in both goals and set a new scoring record for the program, with her 89th career point. This season, O'Reilly is off to a hot start, scoring five goals through CNU's first five games.Â
The CNU defense has been impressive, allowing just three goals so far this season. Rookie goalkeeper Haley Casanova has anchored the stalwart D, picking up three shutouts and boasting a 0.57 goals against average. She's also made 22 saves for an .880 save percentage.Â
Last weekend, the Maroons picked up a win over Averett University before a scoreless draw against Franklin & Marshall brought the overall record to 2-1-1 on the season. With just four goals so far this season, Roanoke has been led by its tough defense, posting shutouts in three of its four games. Carolyn Sarbacher has started all four games and has played in all but 60 minutes of action for the Maroons. Her 0.27 goals against average is paired with an impressive 93.8% save percentage.Â
Offensively, Marlana Barnard has five points early this season with two goals and an assist. Ashley Barnes and Courtney Yoke are the only other Maroons with points this season, each with a goal apiece.Â
The Captains have played the Roanoke College squad nine times in its history, holding a slight 5-4 advantage in the all-time series. The last CNU win came in 2008, taking a 4-1 decision at home.
