SALISBURY, Md. -- With a 6-3 setback to Salisbury University on Wednesday, the Christopher Newport women's tennis team wraps up the regular season with an overall record of 15-6. The Captains will now focus their attention on this weekend's USA South Tournament, where they are the #2 seed, taking on seventh-seeded N.C. Wesleyan College on Friday, April 12 at 2:00 pm.
In the regular season finale, sophomore
Angela Stallman was in danger of seeing her 16-match win streak ended when she suffered a first-set loss to Jessica Babyak. She would bounce back, though, and make it 17 straight with a 5-7, 6-1, 10-2 win at No. 6 singles, improving to 20-5 on the season.
She picked up one of two singles victories on the day for CNU, as junior
Jodi Noland earned the other at No. 3. She took on Roxanne Alban and came away with a 6-1, 6-0 victory, giving her 15 wins to rank second on the team.
In doubles play, Noland paired with rookie
Jackie Gaine for a thrilling 9-8 (7-3) win at No. 2 doubles, dropping Elaina Iosue and Katie Youlios.
Salisbury, ranked eighth in the region, improved to 15-2 overall this season with the win.
