CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Sliding a bit lately, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to get back on track Wednesday when the Captains head to Virginia Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. battle at Foster Field.

On a two-game skid, CNU currently sits at 5-6 on the season, while the Marlins are 4-4. In six all-time meetings between the two programs, Virginia Wesleyan holds a 5-1 advantage. Last season, VWC picked up an 11-6 victory in Newport News.

Consistently strong throughout the year, John Thompson has been at the forefront of the CNU attack, leading the team with 41 points and 26 assists. Alex Barber has been electric on the offensive end as well, chiming in with 17 goals. Aaron Chrzaszcz and Billy Crist also have at least 10 points each for the Captains.

Looking sturdy between the pipes, Andy McGregor currently boasts a .574 save percentage and a 7.69 goals-against-average. He has been helped on the defensive end by Brenden Dwyer, Teddy Pekalski, and Zakary Burkhard, who all have at least 10 caused turnovers apiece.

Offensively, Virginia Wesleyan has been guided by Nick Pappas, who leads the team with 18 goals. Josh Currier has also chipped in with 32 points, including 16 assists, while Mike Moran and Mikey Connors have added double-digit goal totals as well.

Stingy on the defensive side of the ball, Corey Bauer has a .621 save percentage and a 9.87 goals-against-average. Connors also leads the way with 36 ground balls, while he and Ruben Pena are tied with four caused turnovers apiece.

Engrossed in the middle of a seven-game road trip, Christopher Newport will head to Towson, Maryland on Saturday for a 1 p.m. match-up against Goucher.
