CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday

ASHLAND, VA. -- Needing to keep their momentum following an impressive 12-1 victory over Randolph on Saturday, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will head to Randolph-Macon on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. battle against the Yellow Jackets at Day Field.

Only four days after posting their first victory of the season, the Captains (1-1) will look to move above .500 with a strong performance on Wednesday. Randolph-Macon currently sits at 1-2 on the season but has fared well in its match-ups with CNU. In six all-time meetings between the two programs, the Yellow Jackets are 6-0, including an 11-8 victory in Newport News last season.

With a head of steam after its dominant showing on Saturday, Christopher Newport will look to break through against Randolph-Macon utilizing its well-rounded offensive attack and stifling defense. Currently, 10 Captains have scored at least one goal, including six with multiple scores. Aaron Chrzaszcz leads the way with four goals, while Gregory Limon, Will Geise, and John Thompson all have three apiece.

Making waves as an excellent facilitator as well, Thompson leads the team with five assists, while Alex Barber has chipped in with two helpers.

Anchoring the team's defensive efforts, Chase Walton and Dave Magdeburger each have three caused turnovers during the year, while Zakary Burkhard, Brenden Dwyer, and Teddy Pekalski have all forced a pair. Andy McGregor has seen the lion's share of work in goal for CNU, posting 12 saves during his 90 minutes between the pipes.

Coming into the contest on a minor two-game skid, Randolph-Macon dropped an 18-13 decision at Mary Washington last Wednesday before falling to Lebanon Valley, 20-4, on Saturday. So far, junior Jason Andrews has been at the forefront of the team's offensive attack, posting 10 goals and four assists. Tim Rowe has also scored seven times, while Nick Benhoff and Justin Butler have tallied three scores apiece.

On the defensive end, Benhoff leads the team with three caused turnovers and 20 ground balls. He has also won 23 of his 43 faceoff attempts. In goal for the Yellow Jackets, Thomas Smith has made 18 saves in 116 minutes of action, while Jordan Devito has posted 10 stops in 63 minutes in the net.

Next up for the Captains will be their home opener as Christopher Newport welcomes Mary Washington to town for a 1 p.m. battle on Saturday, March 2.
