NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –
Camry Green collected her team-leading 11th double-double of the season, while Jordan Miller drained a career-high 13 points to lead the 23rd-ranked Christopher Newport women's basketball team to a commanding 78-35 victory over Methodist on Sunday afternoon at the Freeman Center.

Green finished the contest with 15 points and 12 boards, while Tia Perry matched her with 15 points and added three assists. Nicole Mitchell also knocked down 10 points for CNU (21-2, 14-2 USA South), and Andrea Hobbs helped pace the offensive attack with a team-best five assists against Methodist (15-8, 10-6).

Overall, the Captains were lights-out from the field, draining 30 of 53 shots for a season-best .566 field goal percentage. CNU was even more lethal at the free throw line, finishing a perfect 14-for-14 from the charity stripe. Christopher Newport had not posted a perfect performance at the line since going 13-for-13 against Greensboro on February 28, 2009.

Following the same script that worked to perfection on Saturday, the Captains raced out to an early lead and never looked back. Mitchell and Perry combined for eight of the team's first 10 points on the way to a 10-2 advantage. Although the visitors eventually chipped their deficit down to four, the squad would never get any closer.

Showing her skills from all over the court, Perry came through with a gorgeous three from beyond the arc before driving into the lane just over a minute later for a hard-earned layup to give CNU a double-digit edge at 17-7. Later, Green converted a nice three-point play before Kelly Halverson hit one from long range with under a minute left in the first half.

As the clock made its way towards halftime, the Captains added one final exclamation point onto the first half. Perry swiped a clean steal near half court and fired a laser to Chantal Thomas, who broke free on the far side of the court and dropped in a fast-break layup to finish off the first half with a 33-12 advantage.

Leading by 21 at halftime for the second straight day, Christopher Newport refused to relax and continued to run after the break. Green delivered the first four points for CNU in the second half before Hobbs slipped away from the Methodist defense and added a layup to extend the Captain edge to 41-16.

After bumping the lead to 43-17, Miller put on a show during an impressive seven-minute stretch in the middle of the second half. After coming through with a layup to push the lead to 28, the freshman knocked down a deep three and a clean jumper from just outside the paint to give CNU a 52-22 lead. With some work left to do, she rained in another three, swiped a steal that led to a quick layup for Perry, and converted three straight free throws to cap off her electric effort.

With the lead up to 35 at 64-29, Christopher Newport eased into the victory. Mitchell tacked on two more layups, Green continued her down-low dominance with a bucket and block, and Anika Trent and Brittany Speed put the final touches on the victory with the last four points to seal the 78-35 win.

Overall, 11 different Captains scored a point and 14 pulled down at least one rebound to round out a well-balanced effort. On the defensive side, CNU held Methodist to a .212 field goal percentage and forced 17 turnovers, including three steals by Brandi Holland and two each from Green and Trent.

Christopher Newport will return to action on Wednesday when the Captains host Mary Baldwin during the Play 4Kay Breast Cancer Awareness Game at 5:30 p.m. at the Freeman Center.
