Captains Host First Place York College (Pa.) for Senior Day Saturday, 2:00 pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The last home regular season game in the careers of six seniors will be a pivotal matchup against York College of Pennsylvania this Saturday, as the Christopher Newport women's soccer team plays host at 2:00 pm. York has a 5-0-1 conference mark paired with their overall record of 9-3-2, and will face off against the Captains (10-2-1, 4-0-0), unbeaten in CAC action this season.

The matchup Saturday has key playoff implications as both teams vie for a top seed in the league's tournament set to begin on November 2. Neither team has suffered a loss in CAC play and sit atop the league standings, first and second.

The Captains will honor the senior class in a pre-game ceremony before taking on the Spartans. The group includes Emma O'Reilly, CNU's all-time leading scorer, and Carly Utterback, who ranks third all-time on the career assists chart. Jackie Bond, Bupe Okeowo, Alexis Stahlman and Madelyn Stephens round out the accomplished group of seniors.

This season, O'Reilly has added an emphatic punctuation mark to her four-year career at CNU, moving past the 100-point plateau while again leading the Captains' offense. Her ten goals and 23 points are among the league leaders, while her four game-winning strikes leads the Capital Athletic Conference.

The Captains defense continues to make strides each outing, as CNU has outscored its last five opponents 18-2. The Captains are 5-0 in that stretch and have just one loss in the last ten games (8-1-1). Rookie goalkeeper Haley Casanova has six shutouts in her first year, allowing just nine goals for a 0.71 goals against average.

York College has also been led by a dominant defense this season, as the first-place Spartans have given up just nine goals in its first 14 games. Junior goalkeeper Melanie Glessner has started all 13 games and played the majority of the minutes. She boasts a 0.67 goals against average and a save percentage of almost 85%.

Unbeaten in their last six games, the Spartans are blowing by opponents, outscoring their foes 17-3 in that stretch. Junior Clare Chatham leads the attack, with 15 points on four goals and seven assists.
