CNU Soccer Hosts Doubleheader Versus Frostburg State on Captains Turf Field Saturday

Game times set for 1pm, 3pm

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Due to accumulated rainfall this week, the Christopher Newport University men's and women's soccer games set for Saturday, October 12, have been moved to Captains Turf Field. CNU will host a soccer doubleheader against Frostburg State at the originally scheduled times of 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm, but will play the games on the turf field. Live stats will be available at CNUsports.com.

Both games will be critical matchups in the Capital Athletic Conference standings, as the regular season continues in full swing. First, the CNU women's soccer team (8-2-1, 2-0-0) will take on the Bobcats (5-6-1, 2-1-1) at 1:00 pm, followed immediately by the men's game. CNU (7-4-1, 1-1-0) hosts FSU (9-2-0, 3-1-0) with kickoff slated for 3:00 pm, tentatively.

On the women's side, CNU has been led by all-time leading scorer Emma O'Reilly, with nine goals and three assists for her third 20+ point season of her career. Fellow senior Bupe Okeowo has added 14 points so far this season, with six goals and two assists. Overall, twelve different Captains have scored a goal this season for CNU, as the team is averaging nearly two and a half goals scored per game.

Frostburg's women's squad is led by the league's leading scorer, Stephanie Fazenbaker. Powered by a big five-goal performance versus Waynesburg earlier this year, Fazenbaker leads the CAC with ten goals and 23 total points.

In the second game of the doubleheader, head coach Steve Shaw will guide the Captains' men squad in a big conference matchup against the team directly above CNU in the standings.

Jalon Brown, a 2012 All-American, is leading the league in both goals scored and total points, with nine and 23, respectively. Sophomore Ryan Balfour is right behind, second in the league in both categories, with seven goals and 16 total points.

Frostburg State's defense has allowed just over three shots on goal per game, allowing a 1.00 goals against average in its first 11 games. The Bobcats are led by senior goalkeeper Drew Hock, with a 0.41 goals against avereage in five starts. Pablo Torrano and Chris Jones have each scored six times, adding one assist for 13 total points.

The first game will kick off promptly at 1:00 pm. For directions to the turf field, see the CNU Campus Map. The turf field is labeled the "Field Hockey & Lacrosse Field" on the campus map.
