ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Led by a record-breaking performance from freshman Chelsea Wolfe (Williamsburg, Va.), the Christopher Newport women's soccer team ran away with a third straight victory, 6-0 over N.C. Wesleyan. Wolfe assisted on four of the six goals, breaking the Captains single game record for helpers in a game. CNU improved to 5-7 overall including a 3-2 mark in USA South action, while the Bishops fall to 3-6-1 overall, 1-4-0 in the league.

Wolfe's four assists set a new standard of a mark that was held by three players in CNU history: Laura McFerrin (vs. Chowan, 10/22/97), Heather Vance (vs. Shenandoah, 10/16/99) and Marica Betoney (vs. Averett, 10/13/07), each with three assists in a game.

The Captains raced out to a big lead early, scoring four first-half goals, all in the first 16 minutes of action. The first goal came less than four minutes in when junior leading scorer Emma O'Reilly scored her third gamewinner off of Wolfe's first assist of the afternoon.

Sophomore Sarah Perrett set up the second goal for senior Dani Gunderson, who blasted a shot from 25 yards out in the 7th minute of play.  O'Reilly added her second score of the day and career-high-tying 11th of the season just five minutes later when Wolfe played a through ball into the box where she beat the goalkeeper to the right side.

The early scoring run was capped off by Gunderson's second score on Wolfe's third helper. The goal came on a pretty combination where the freshman crossed it into the box and Gunderson headed the ball past the keeper to take a 4-0 lead.

Wolfe's record-breaking assist came on a corner kick in the second half when Bupe Okeowo headed in the set play for her second goal of the season. She finished the weekend with five total assists on seven Christopher Newport goals.

Rounding out the Captains offensive explosion was Carly Utterback setting up rookie Kaitlyn Riggins for the sixth and final tally in the 72nd minute. Riggins' first career score came on Utterback's team-leading seventh assist of the season.

While the offense was pouring in goals, the Captains defense had a strong performance as well, holding the Bishops to just two shots in the first half and one on-goal. In the game, N.C. Wesleyan mustered just eight shots against the Captains, putting just three on-frame. Senior Meghan Gumbs and junior Emily Brown combined for the shutout.

Christopher Newport returns home for the next three games, starting with a big conference matchup next Saturday at Noon as the Captains take on league-leading Averett University (7-3, 5-0).
