Conference Play Opens Friday For Women's Soccer

CNU faces Greensboro College on the road

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The final women's soccer season in the USA South Athletic Conference will get underway Friday evening, as the Captains (2-3-0) travel to Greensboro College (1-3-0) for a 5:00 pm match. The Captains, picked to win the USA South in 2012, will take on the Pride, picked fifth in the preseason poll. 

Christopher Newport has opened the season 2-3-0 with wins over Rutgers-Newark and the College of Mount St. Joseph. After the conference opener Friday night, the Captains will then travel to Washington, D.C. for a Sunday afternoon tilt against Catholic University at 1:00 pm. 

Leading the way offensively so far has been junior Emma O'Reilly with five goals including a hat trick. O'Reilly moved into the Top 10 all-time in CNU scoring, with 53 total points. She now ranks 7th in career goals and 9th in career points. Senior Dani Gunderson has also raced out to hot start, with three goals and three assist for 9 total points. 

Greensboro won their season opener against Hood, but have dropped three straight outscored by opponents 12-1 as the team fell to 1-3 overall. Three different players have scored for the Pride while Sarah Hopkins leads the way with a pair of assists. 

Catholic has also gotten off to a slow start, at 1-4-0 overall so far. The Cardinals defeated Rowan on a neutral site, 2-1, but have struggled to find goals early in the season.
