LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team suffered a 16-6 loss to Lynchburg College on the road.
Kyle Pasta scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Captains. CNU goalkeeper
Dominic Gianino made 15 saves in the contest.
The Captains put the first goal on the board a minute into the game with Pasta's first score of the game. A minute and a half later Lynchburg scored their first of the game. The Hornets continued to score picking up three more goals for a 4-to-1 lead at the end of the first period.
The Hornets extended their lead in the second period totaling five goals while the Captains scored one for a halftime score of 9-2. Pasta scored for the Captains off a pass from
Billy Crist.
Lynchburg scored two goals in the second half to extend their lead to nine before CNU scored back-to-back goals, from
Chase Walton and
Matt Shaw, to make it 11-4. Lynchburg finished up the third period with two more goals and tacked on three in the fourth period. Pasta and Crist each scored for the Captains in the fourth for a 16-6 final score.
Dominic Gianino made 15 saves for the Captains in his first start of the year.
Brenden Dwyer and
Teddy Pekalski both caused three turnovers and picked up four ground balls to lead the team.
The Captains return to action as they host Hampden-Sydney next Wednesday, April 18, at 4:00pm.
