Men’s Lacrosse Opens with Washington and Lee and Randolph This Weekend

The Captains play Washington and Lee on Saturday at 1:00pm and Randolph at noon on Sunday

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse season kicks off this weekend with two home games. The Captains host Washington and Lee University on Saturday at 1:00pm and Randolph College at noon on Sunday.

The Captains have returned almost every statistical leader from last season and only graduated three starters. Senior John Glaser is the Captains' biggest offensive threat with a team-high 25 goals and 12 assists in 2011. Senior Rob Koster will also lead offensively for the Captains as he had 22 goals and six assists in his junior campaign.

Sophomore midfielder Teddy Pekalski had a team-high 76 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers in 2011. Pekalski, along with junior Chase Walton will look to lead the midfield in 2012. Walton scored 18 goals and had five assists as well as 12 caused turnovers in 2011. Junior faceoff specialist, Ari Elgort, is back for the Captains in 2012 after posting a .600 faceoff win percentage, winning 108 of 180 faceoffs.

The Captains will face Washington and Lee for the first time in program history on Saturday in their season opener. The Captains have won their first game of the season for three consecutive years. Washington and Lee was 9-8 in 2011 and are currently 1-0. The Generals played Ferrum on February 14th and won 11-3.

Less than 24 hours later the Captains will take on Randolph College. This is the Wildcat's fourth year with a men's lacrosse program. The two teams have played three times and the Captains have won all three contests with a 17-1 win in 2011.
