NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Senior Dani Gunderson scored her first career hat trick, 8th in program history, and junior Jackie Bond factored into four first-half scores to lead the Captains past William Peace, 7-0. CNU improved to 6-8 overall,  4-3 in USA South action while the Pacers drop to 1-13 overall, 0-7 against league opponents.

Gunderson's hat trick is the first of her career, scoring twice in the first half and once in the second. Her first score would prove to be the gamewinner, coming in the 32nd minute of action. It is the first three-goal game for any Captain since 2010 when Sam Ciaravino (vs. Peace 10/17/10).

The first score came on a cross by Jackie Bond from the right side. Bond's big day was just beginning as she then factored into the next three scores for CNU, opening up a 4-0 first-half lead. The junior forward assisted on Julie Jennings goal in the 37th minute, scored her own in the 39th off an assist by Shaydah Naraghi, and then assisted on Gunderson's second tally in the 42nd.

Staked to a 4-0 lead, the Captains settled in offensively, outshooting the Pacers 17-0 in the first half. Early in the second frame, sophomore Sarah Perrett set up Gunderson's third and final strike just over am inute into the half.

Senior midfielder Annemarie Weaver and Emma O'Reilly would round out the scoring in the 63rd and 69th minute, respectively. O'Reilly's goal sets a new career high for a season with her 12th of the year.

The senior class was honored in a pre-game ceremony for Senior Day, and the four playing in their final campaign had a memorable day. Jennings and Weaver each scored once, while Gunderson picked up the hat trick. Senior goalkeeper Meghan Gumbs rounded out the class with a shutout, making three saves in the game.

The Captains will return to action in a big conference battle on Sunday at 2:00 pm, as they welcome in Meredith College (10-4, 6-1).
