SALISBURY, Md. -- Christopher Newport dropped its fifth one-goal decision of the season today, falling at Salisbury University (4-3-2) in a 2-1 final. The Captains fall to 2-5 overall and will begin USA South Conference action this weekend.

CNU outshot the home team in the first half, 7-5, but it was Salisbury who scored in the 20th minute with one of their two shots on-goal. Miele scored on an assist by Casey Hafford to give the Sea Gulls a first-half lead.

Salisbury added to the lead in the second half when Sarah Pfundstein found Miele for the eventual gamewinner that got by CNU goalkeeper Meghan Gumbs (Mastic, N.Y.). Gumbs made four saves in the contest on seven shots on-goal.

In the 73rd minute, junior forward Dani Gunderson (Newport News, Va.) took a hard shot that the goalkeeper couldn't corral, and Thomas followed with the shot on the rebound. The goal was the first of her career.
