YORK, Pa. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team fell to York College 11-5 in their 11th game of the season despite outshooting the Spartans 52 to 33. The Captains are now 5-6 on the year while York improves to 10-3.
York put the first goal on the board just 46 seconds into the game. CNU tied it up under four minutes later with an unassisted goal from
Rob Koster. York then went on a four-goal run to take a four goal lead with 55 seconds left in the period. With 40 seconds left
Ari Elgort won a faceoff and then scored to pull the Captains within three at the end of the first period.
CNU scored the first two goals of the second period.
Matt Gleisner scored from a
Kyle Pasta pass and
Billy Crist scored an unassisted goal. York then scored two to bring their lead back to three. With just one second left in the first half
John Glaser scored to make it a 7-5 halftime score.
The only goal of the third period belonged to the Spartans as they scored at 10:46.
York continued the scoring in the fourth as they put up three more goals to end the game 11-5.
Elgort won 11 of 19 face offs and picked up a team-high ground balls for the Captains. Defender
Steven West caused three turnovers and scooped up three ground balls.
Andy McGregor made seven saves for CNU and played all 60 minutes in the net.
The Captains return to action on Wednesday, April 13, as they host Lynchburg College at 7:00pm in the last home game of the regular season.
