FERRUM, Va. – The Christopher Newport University men's lacrosse team defeated the Ferrum College Panthers 11-4 on the road this weekend. The Captains improve to 6-7 and the Panthers fall to 6-7.
Ferrum's Andrew Gibeau scored first at 8:18 in the first period to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead that would hold for only three minutes. The Captains went on a five-goal run that took them into the second period.
Matt Gleisner scored at 5:32 in the first period to tie the game at 1-1.
James Kirkpatrick gave the Captains a lead with an unassisted goal at 4:20.
Jake Myers put in two goals in the second period while
Chase Walton scored one.
With six seconds left in the first half the Panthers scored their second goal of the game to pull within three. The Captains and Pantherse swapped goals in the third period with each team picking up two for a 7-4 Captains' lead heading into the fourth period.
CNU extended their lead in the fourth period with four goals starting just 20 seconds into the period and ending with their last goal as time expired to win the game 11-4.
The Captains were led by Gleisner who scored four followed by Myers with two.
John Glaser left with three assists.
George Ruddy and
Teddy Pekalski each picked up three ground balls. Pekalski and Alex Elliot led the team in caused turnovers with two each.
Andy McGregor picked up eight saves for the Captains and only allowed four goals.
The Captains return to action as they travel to Hampden-Sydney on Wednesday, April 20, for a 4:00pm start.
