Women's Tennis Defeated by Washington College, 9-0

Captains fall to 5-2 with the loss

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Playing one of its most challenging opponents of the season, the Christopher Newport University women's tennis team fell to 5-2 with a 9-0 home loss to Washington College of Chestertown, Md.

The Captains were competitive for most of the doubles, and Marion Gloor and Sarah Stafford led 5-2 at the top spot before falling 8-6. That completed a three-match sweep that put Washington ahead 3-0.

In singles, played on three courts in two segments, the Shorewomen won each match. Gloor's 6-1, 7-5 defeat at No. 4 was the closest among the five straight-sets decisions, and Jodi Noland took a set at No. 5 before succumbing 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 in the last match off the court.

CNU next will play a pair of matches in North Carolina, facing Guilford at 2 p.m. Friday and Greensboro at 11 a.m. Saturday.
