MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Christopher Newport University will take on #4 seeded Greensboro College Friday at Noon in the 2011 USA South Semifinals, for the right to defend the team's back-to-back conference championships. CNU, the top-seed in the 2011 tournament, has posted a 10-7-1 overall record, but won the regular season with a 7-1-1 mark in USA South action.
Earlier this season, CNU and Greensboro played to a 1-1 draw in Newport News, as the Captains held a 1-0 lead until the 88th minute when the Pride tied it up on a penalty kick goal.
The 12:00 pm kickoff will begin the 2011 USA South Soccer Championships at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Va. The second semifinal will begin at approximately 2:30 pm between #2 Shenandoah and #3 Averett, followed by the men's semifinal round played at 5:00 and 7:30 pm.
Christopher Newport has been led by senior
Kendall Dishaw (Salem, Va.), scoring eight goals and adding an assist for 17 points, while sophomore
Emma O'Reilly (Springfield, Va.) has matched her production. Junior
Dani Gunderson has added 14 points on four goals and six assists.
Sarah Lang leads the way for Greensboro, scoring 31 points on 14 goals and three assists, while the Pride has posted an 11-5-1 overall mark this year. USA South Rookie of the Year Shireen Unvala has posted a 1.27 goals against average between the pipes as the only goalkeeper all year for Greensboro.
