CNU Hosts N.C. Wesleyan in USA South Tournament Action

Captains the top seed in the 2011 tournament

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Top-seeded Christopher Newport University will host #8 N.C. Wesleyan (2-16-0, 2-7-0) in women's soccer action tonight, as the Captains (9-7-1, 7-1-1) host the opening round of the USA South Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Captains Field; the winner will advance to play at the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville, Va. on Friday in the semifinals.

CNU earned the regular season title last weekend for the third time in the last four years. The Captains have been on a bit of a run, going 6-1-1 in the last eight games, outscoring opponents 25-7. The offense has been led by senior Kendall Dishaw (7g, 1a) and sophomore Emma O'Reilly (7g, 1a), the reigning USA South Tournament MVP.

The Bishops have struggled to a 2-16 season, with both wins coming in conference play. Rebecca Staylor leads the way with 22 points on nine goals and four assists, but the team defense has allowed over five goals per contest. The Captains won a 4-0 decision in Rocky Mount last Friday in the team's matchup earlier this season.

Live stats will be available at kickoff. The winner will advance to play in the USA South Semifinals, facing the winner of the #4 Greensboro/#5 Ferrum matchup.
