VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Sophomore Dani Gunderson (Newport News, Va.) knocked home the gamewinner just minutes after Montclair State (0-1-1) knotted it up to lead the Captains (1-1-0) to their first victory of the season, 2-1. Gunderson's goal was assisted by senior Sam Ciaravino (Burke, Va.) and Annemarie Weaver (Norfolk, Va.) had the first score for CNU.

After a scoreless first half where CNU peppered the Montclair State goalkeeper with 11 shots and five on-frame, the Captains came out of the break with continued intensity. The team was awarded a corner kick in the 50th minute of play, taken by junior midfielder Elise Haug. Weaver scored on the corner, with the assist given to Haug.

Montclair State would answer in the 61st minute, as Rachel Senyszyn found Nicole Anulewicz running on from the right side. CNU's gamewinner would come just minutes later, though, as Ciaravino crossed it in from the right side, leaving Gunderson with a shot from just five yards out.
