NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The CNU women's soccer team (1-3-0) dropped a tight 4-3 decision to the Frostburg State Bobcats (4-1-0) in the finale of the 2010 Captains Classic. CNU got a pair of goals from rookie Emma O'Reilly (Springfield, Va.), but Frostburg State had the equalizer and go-ahead tally in the last 17 minutes of play.

The Captains wasted no time in getting on the board, as the first strike came just 39 seconds into the game. Elise Haug (Centreville, Va.) sent a long pass down the center of the field, finding O'Reilly streaking past her defender on the left side. O'Reilly didn't miss the one-on-one chance with the keeper and gave CNU the early lead.

Frostburg State would knot it up at one with a corner kick goal in the 35th minute of action, as defender Heather Fleishell scored off a Liz Seligman corner.

CNU looked to pull away early in the second half, as O'Reilly tallied her second in the 52nd minute and senior Sam Ciaravino (Burke, Va.) added an insurance goal in the 59th, but Frostburg State continued to press. The Bobcats scored three unanswered goals, including the game-winner from Amanda Wharton with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.

Sophomore GK Meghan Gumbs (Mastic, N.Y.) was up to the task for much of the game, turning away nine shots-on-goal, but each of the three final goals came in one-on-one opportunities for Frostburg State. The Bobcats got goals from four different players as Selgiman added a second assist on the gamewinner.

CNU was led by Ciaravino with three shots on-goal, including her first score of the season.

The Captains return to action as a part of a doubleheader with the men's team this Friday night, as they take on Marietta College at 5:00 pm.
