NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport women's soccer team fell victim to the Cal Lutheran Regals on the first day of the 2010 Captains Classic, 4-0. The Captains fall to 1-2 on the season while the Regals improve to 3-0 with the win.
Cal Lutheran jumped out on top early, scoring two goals in the first seven minutes. Kristin Cameron knocked a one-timer into the upper 90 off a pass from Brittany Clark on the right side in the 6th minute and a Kristina Hulse unassisted shot made it 2-0 just over a minute later.
The game was quiet on both sides for much of the match following the second goal, until the 86th minute when Hulse scored an unassisted goal on a low liner after beating her defender. The Regals would add a fourth goal in the 89th minute as Hulse finished off her hat trick off an assist by Rosemarie Lombardi.
Hulse led the way for Cal Lutheran, taking eight shots including five on-frame. Two goalkeepers shared the shutout, as Kristin Borzi went just under 70 minutes with three saves and Tina Hedwall finished it out, making one save.
The Captains were led by
Emma O'Reilly (Springfield, Va.), taking two shots on goal, while
Dani Gunderson (Newport News, Va.) and
Elise Haug (Centreville, Va.) each posted one on-frame.

Tomorrow's games will begin at 1:00 pm with Virginia Wesleyan facing Cal Lutheran, immediately followed by the Captains vs. Frostburg State.
