NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Five Christopher Newport University softball players have been named all-state by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). CNU coach
Keith Parr was also selected Coach of the Year following the Captains 42-10 season.
Senior pitcher
Kristen Rowe was named to the first team and also was honored as Co-Player of the Year. Rowe, a native of Richmond, was 24-6 with a 1.55 ERA for CNU. Rowe was the USA South's Pitcher of the Year, and struck out 204 batters in 186 innings pitched in 2010.
Junior centerfielder
Ashley Mani was also named to the first team. Mani, a Chesapeake native, hit .341 and led the squad with 46 runs scored.
Senior shortstop
Mary Kennedy, freshman catcher
Chelsea Mitchell, and junior third baseman
Jessie Atkinson were all selected to the second team.
The 2010 CNU softball team advanced to the final four of the NCAA Tournament. The 42 wins set a program record and also marks the most wins by any Christopher Newport athletic program ever.
Keith Parr's squad also set a school mark for NCAA wins (6) as the Captains were 6-2 in post-season play.
