DANVILLE, VA - Superior depth proved decisive Friday as the Christopher Newport women's tennis team defeated Averett 6-3 and improved to 14-1, 5-1 in USA South Athletic Conference play.

Averett fielded only five players, giving the Captains default victories at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles. CNU started an all-freshman singles lineup on the trip west, with sophomore Lauren Kelly playing part in a No. 2 doubles victory.

Left-hander Erin Spinks won in singles on the court and in doubles with Kelly.

The Captains also got on-court singles victories from No. 3 Kim Morrissett and No. 5 Dani Cribb, countering Averett's strong top two. Finns Emilia Vuorela and Johanna Heikkinen combined for three Cougar victories.
